From dynamic book club discussions and apparent star brightness, to fraction sense and designing their own bedrooms, these lessons showcase a diverse range of skills that fostered a vibrant and collaborative learning environment. My student’s enthusiasm not only enriched the classroom experience, but also sparked their capacity for critical thinking, creativity, and a genuine passion for learning.
Design a Bedroom
Rectangle shapes that have the same area, can have different side lengths. In this lesson, students apply the area formula of a rectangle in real world contexts.
Book Club HyperDoc
As part of understanding fantasy fiction, students read, watch, learn, and show what they know about chapters 4-6 of “James and the Giant Peach”
What’s to Eat?
In this interdisciplinary lesson, students focus on how organisms in a forest obtain their energy, and detail their interactions.
Star Light, Star Bright
Students make the connection that a star’s brightness ranges when comparing it to their distance from Earth.
Comparing Fractions
Students create equivalent fractions by using models, and begin understanding fraction equivalence in order to add and subtract with unlike denominators.
Fraction Sense
Using geometric pattern blocks, students create shapes in order to practice finding its value using fractions.
Create Your Own Spookley
After reading the children’s book, “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin,” students begin to understand volume by designing their own Spookley using a net.
